Northern Iraq - June, 2014
We travelled to the Kurdish capital of Erbil which has become a safe haven for Iraqis fleeing the advance of ISIS militants. A thirty minute drive down the road towards Mosul there were thousands of displaced people surviving in desperate conditions.
UPDATE AUGUST 8 - The refugee camp at the Khazer checkpoint we visited in June is now abandoned and at the front line in conflict. Islamic State militant artillery positions nearby were the first to be hit by US airstrikes.
